The FINALS

So here it is, finally. The big cheese. The whole enchilada. The PHX LAYERS Finals! It has been an incredible first season. We saw over 40 locals jump in and compete in the first ever PHX LAYERS competition. Countless hours and hundreds of layers later we emerge with the final two designers. We have in the left corner Safwat "Hat Trick" Saleem, and on the right Jon Ashcroft. This momentous battle will take place at 12pm Monday October 19th. LIVE on twitter and the website. The Quarter Finals

With 3 weeks left until PHXDW tensions and anticipation are increasing exponentially! On this jam-packed 1st weekend of October we bring to you our PHX LAYERS Quarter Finals. Eight incredible designers are butting heads to get into the Semi-finals and increase their shot at the supreme glory. This weekend we have...

Send in the Pinch Hitter

As of the conclusion of Round 1, PHX LAYERS will be conducted in a brand new format as seen here.

Instead of building on top of their opponents layers, they will be building WITH them. It's a collaborative battle, where they both have to work together, adjust the style, carry each other and flow together, all while trying to one up their opponent. Intriguing right?

Here's the new rules:
  • The canvas is now 760×400.
  • The first person to go starts with a full canvas and creates something fantastic.
  • The next round, the opponent must take the bottom 50 pixels of the previous round and use them as the top of their layer to continue the story, battle, and greatness.

Each round still lasts 30 minutes and each match has a total of 6 rounds. The final layers will then be combined to form one large image for displaying on the site. At that point the voting begins!

Thank you to all who participated. Look out for more PHX LAYERS projects in the near future and most importantly come out to PHXDW.

Round 1 + Qualifiers

The beginning of PHX LAYERS echos its inspiration clearly, as a result the following qualifier and 1st round are in the borrowed format of the original LYT. The format changed to more closely adapt to our goals and purpose of the PHX LAYERS challenge: collaboration.
